About us

An island crew with the right tools for island ground.

West Sound Utility Construction exists for one reason: getting utilities to island properties without tearing those properties apart.

Our story

Built for the San Juans.

Running a new service line in the islands used to mean one thing: dig a trench and live with the damage. Between bedrock, tree roots, steep lots and long private drives, that approach was slow, expensive and hard on the land.

We invested in specialized directional drilling equipment so island homeowners, builders and utilities could have a better option. Today we place power, water, sewer and communications piping throughout the San Juan Islands — underneath the things that make these places worth living in.

Because we’re local, we know the roads, the ferries and the neighbors. We plan around all three.

“The best compliment we get is a homeowner who walks out the next morning and can’t tell where the new line went in.”

How we work

What you can count on.

Respect for the property

We treat every yard, driveway and tree line as if it were our own — small footprint going in, clean site going out.

Plan first, drill second

Locates, potholing and route planning come before the drill ever turns. Fewer surprises underground means fewer surprises on your invoice.

Clear communication

You’ll know the plan, the price and the schedule up front, and we’ll keep your builder or electrician in the loop.

Island logistics, handled

Ferry reservations, barge landings, tight access roads — we deal with island logistics every day so you don’t have to.

Who we work with

Homeowners, builders and utilities.

Most of our work comes from three kinds of clients: homeowners adding or upgrading service, general contractors who need the underground done right before they build, and utility and broadband providers extending their networks across the islands.

  • Homeowners and property managers
  • General contractors and custom home builders
  • Electricians, plumbers and well contractors
  • Utility, water-system and broadband providers
